Get Paid, Not Played is an informational pamphlet designed to and encourage graduating design students to reassess their own practice as a designer and a skilled professional.
As the creative industry become more competitive, graduating design students who are looking to start a career usually is without much work experience. As a result, new designers may end up taking on roles where they may be exploited for free labour and/or under compensated as an equal employee. It is essential for designers to understand all the potential risks and consequences of internships, speculative work, and freelancing. As well, it can guide graduating students to carefully consider finding alternatives to building up their portfolio during or after post-secondary school to prepare themselves for the graphic design industry without taking on exploitative work.
